SOME QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE BLOG

WHAT IS THE BLOG FOR?

I aim to post on the blog about once a week.  I might direct you to some useful links or post some audio of what I have been playing that week.  This isn’t a place for only polished performances.  Learning a new piece takes time, whatever your level.  Hopefully seeing how I work myself will give you some ideas for practice.

At student concerts I will also post some video or audio content of your own performances if you wish.  Bethan and Bronwen have already posted some videos on the blog so you have an idea of what these look like.  This is a good way to show how you are doing to grannies and uncles!

WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?

This is a public blog.  The advantages are that any of your friends can access it but of course that means other people can too.  In reality there are hundreds and thousands of blogs on wordpress and this blog is unlikely to get hits from people we don’t know.

WHAT ABOUT COMMENTS?

The great thing about the blog is other people can comment on your work.  I will delete any comments I think are likely to offend.  If you want me to delete any comments relating to your own work just ask.

WHAT ABOUT LINKS

If you have a reputable link for this blog let me know.  If you have your own blog or website already you may want to link it to this blog.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS FOR THE BLOG?

I am always open to your creative ideas.  Either let me know in person, or post a comment on one of my blog entries

Actually the best source for technical information about the blog is the wordpress help pages. I have edited this page and will keep doing so as I find out more. The blog is now listed on google – a lot quicker than I expected. This does mean that if you forget the blog address which is a bit long you will at least find it quickly through a search under my name and either “music” or “piano”.

If you want a demonstration on how the blog works ask me for one at your lesson.

I am also investigating the possibility of adding password protection to student videos. This is what the strange password protection page is – I am testing it out. This is what I think so far

    Advantages
    Increased security
If you forget the password for your area you could email me – so it would be quite simple to manage

    Disadvantages
For the comments to work everyone will need their own individual page. It may then be harder to see other people’s videos which is part of the fun of the blog
The only way round this is to make the password something obvious which may mitigate against any enhanced security

A possible compromise is for you to decide yourself. I will give every student their own page and if you additionally want it password protected let me know. It is then up to you who you tell your password to but you will have to tell me! It may be nice to swap passwords amongst students, including any new students.
