Paganini theme

Is you is or is you ain’t my baby (Tom and Jerry style)

I thought it would be good to do a page of videos relating to some of the pieces you are playing.  Please feel free to post any requests here.  Even if one of your pieces is not included yet make sure you watch Lang Lang, he is a great performer.  If you fancy seeing him live he is playing at the Proms this year at a family friendly recital.  See http://www.bbc.co.uk/proms/2008/whatson/3108.shtml for more details.

Lang Lang playing Liebstraum.  Watch out for his expression at the very end!

I am afraid I couldn’t find a video to do this gorgeous Bartok piece justice.  I am not sure if the pianist is struggling with Bartok’s old piano, however there is a very nice soft ending.

No piano playing here but a very clever dog.  If the dog is not too distracting listen to the music.  It is actually a pretty good rendition of drunken sailor.  The twiddly violin bits could be incorporated into a piano performance very effectively.

Finally a very elegant rendition of Fur Elise.

I will keep updating this page in due course.  It is always worthwhile going on to youtube yourself and checking out different approaches to your pieces.  You can even learn a lot from the versions you hate.  Why is their performance unconvincing?  Are they rushing?  Have they forgotten to play softly? Do they look stiff when they play.  Compare to how relaxed Lang Lang is.

Wow. I loved Lang Lang’s playing of Liebstraum. I want to play the full version like that one day – I thought that the arrangement that I play was beautiful but Lang Langs version is amazing. Not sure about the face at the end!!

Are there any clips of him playing the first movement of the Tchaikovsky piece – the ‘Pathetic’ Symphony. If so I’d love to hear it.
